During one of the weekly updates (im not sure which one but if pressed I could probably find it) Sony released an update which specifically stated that mobs on the first floor could con grey to drop the eye. Soloing the second floor myself for three hours I never got a single body drop of an eye for this quest. However yesterday I was in a mentored group to make the mobs con green and we had no problems getting the ornate winged eyes from the mobs on the second floor and above. After seeing the contention on this page I am convinced that you can only get updates from grey mobs on the first floor and no others. I believe that sony meant to unlock the whole zone with grey mobs giving updates but only the first floor works.

You can get the item on the first floor either grey or green, but the second floor is bugged and does not properly drop the eye gray, only green. I suggest putting a /bug report in, hopefully that will get it in the QA queue and eventually get it fixed. --lordebon 18:07, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Quest can be done grayed out Edit

This is as of March 4, 2011 - I received both the eyes from grayed out kills ... got the eye on the 1st floor on my first kill and the eye on the 2nd floor after about 10 kills. I soloed it at level 90.
