BTW if you die attempting this quest recipe, you'll keep the strange mineral, but lose the amber lens. You will have already lost the recipe for the amber lens by this point, so can't just make another one; however, there's a container on the bench in front of Researcher Tahar in Quel'ule where you can get another amber lens so you can still make the combine for the quest.
