Zek, the Scourge Wastes

Ravaged by the horrors of war, the vast majority of the island of Zek has been unsuitable for habitation by anyone, ever since the Deathfist clan of orcs took control of the entirety of the island. They reduced the once-sprawling Jaggedpine Forest to a mere husk of its former glory, stripping much of the forest down to barren, charred earth, while pillaging the land deep below the surface through their ravaging mining operations. What little landscape remained lush and green was guarded by a band of woodland defenders known as the Green Hoods. Their numbers surged during the Age of Destiny, providing them the manpower necessary to begin striking back at the Deathfist Empire, but their successes would be short lived.

After the murder of Emperor Fyst and his strongest champions at the hands of Green Hood recruits, a new warlord would arise and claim the crown of the Deathfist Emperor. His was a tenuous reign, propped up by the empowerment of a select few warpriests as Heralds of Zek. These Heralds prayed to the gods of war, dispensed their blessings, and advised the Emperor. Influenced by his advisors, Emperor Blacktusk demanded a thorough attack upon the small Green Hood village near Three-Toes Watering Hole. It was devastating, but what was to come next was even worse for all of Zek!

The island of Zek has been overrun by a new race of orc, born of the power and hubris of Tallon and Vallon Zek! The few remaining pockets of ancient forest flora and fauna have been decimated. No life has been spared under their indiscriminate march. No landscape has been left untouched, from Warship Docks to the very citadel from which the Deathfist Empire ruled, the land bears the scars of the new Scourge of War!

Under constant threat, the few surviving inhabitants of the dying forest are desperate for your help! The few Green Hood left are determined to locate any other surviving members, while also continuing to support the struggling creatures of Growth, such as treants, sprites, and elementals, through this catastrophic siege of their land. Battle the Scourge of new orcish invaders in an effort to contain their advancement, while delivering strategic, crushing blows to their leadership and objects of strength in The Siege of Zek!

Scourge Keep

Deathfist Citadel. It was once the stronghold of the great orc emperor, Fyst, and his savage Deathfist clan, who held sway over all the lands known as Zek, the Orcish Wastes. But that was the past. The grip the Deathfists had upon the land has been completely severed by the coming of a new breed of stronger, more intelligent orc, known simply as The Scourge.

After rising up from what was once known as Blood Ore Valley, The Scourge spread devastation throughout the wastes, swiftly taking the citadel for themselves and renaming the fortress Scourge Keep, and the valley from which they were born The Siege, where their leaders machinate against anyone who would oppose them. This would include the Green Hoods, who have been at the forefront of the battle against the Deathfist Empire. With the aid of heroes from throughout Norrath, they kept the Deathfist contained within the wastes. Now, with this new orc threat, the Green Hoods look again for help from beyond the wastes, and know that this time - if gone unanswered - not only will their time on Norrath be at an end, but so too could the rest of the world with the release of the Scourge horde.

The Siege [Raid] is your one way trip to death at the hands of the Scourge’s most powerful commanders! Fight your way through four new raid encounters and unlock a fifth - a special challenge mode version of the Sanctifier Goortuk - if you are able to! How exactly you can allow him to become a challenge version is a mystery. Can you figure it out? Can you survive it if you do? The Siege runs the full gamut of raid difficulties, so every raid force will have targets for them to sharpen their swords on!

Scourge Keep, the new orc stronghold, is also chock-full of bad guys! A great many of them (with proper names!) are anxiously awaiting new meat for the slaughter. There may even be a couple (with even bigger and badder proper names!) that could offer a real challenge to a fully-stocked group of heroes. New timed missions are available, and a brand new, death-inducing arena is ready to accept a group of gladiators willing and able to take on wave after wave of combatants. The greater the arena kills, the greater the rewards! So come one, come all! Let’s kill some orcs!

Collections

GU 100 will have over 40 new collections for you to seek, spread throughout all of the new content in the update, including both solo and heroic versions of Zek, the Scourge Wastes, and both advanced solo and heroic versions of Scourge Keep. You will also find new collections within each of the new fabled zones: The Fabled Temple of Cazic-Thule, The Fabled Ruins of Varsoon, The Fabled Sanctum of Fear and The Fabled Chamber of Immortality. All of these collections for the update must be sought out in order to complete the rare meta-collections and receive the final rewards.

Heritage Collections

One of these many zones from GU 100 will also contain a secret rare collection which we are calling a Heritage Collection, as it contains bits and pieces from the heritage quests for the Short Sword of Ykesha and the Shiny Brass Shield. Both of these quests were featured in the original Orcish Wastes and these collections are homage to those infamous heritage quests. Upon completing these collections you will have a choice between a fabled version of these items that have new updated effects.

Treasure Hunt Quests

Timed treasure hunts return for GU100 – this time in Zek, the Scourge Wastes! Search the solo version of the Wastes for the solo level timed treasure hunts, or bring friends to the heroic wastes and take your chances with the heroic level timed treasure hunts. But be forewarned – the heroic versions of these quests are tough, and time won’t be on your side!

You’ll be rewarded for your efforts! Completing the heroic level timed treasure hunts grants a dirty key that has a chance of rewarding a more valuable key when cleaned. And what do these valuable keys open? Why, treasure chests of course! These all new valuable keys open a new set of treasure chests scattered throughout the Wastes. So get out there, collect those keys, and find your treasure – there’s no time to Waste!

Experience Vial System

Experience Vials will allow players to purchase empty vials off of the EverQuest 2 Marketplace for Daybreak Cash; these vials can be used to “bottle” experience points as you earn them. Once you fill up an empty vial, you will be able to claim a full vial which you can give to a friend or alt, sell on the broker, or even save for yourself for later.

This new Experience Vial system is accessible in the Marketplace and usable by all players on regular servers (not available on TLE)! Who will you share your experience with first?
