A GM event is a type of Live event, where a GM gives a player a special quest or task to accomplish. The rewards are normally unique items that can not be found else where in the game.

The larger, and more epic, GM events are unique and oftentimes a notification will be broadcast throughout the entire server that one is about to start.

However, the term "GM" is generalized in the MMO world to mean whatever "higher than the player" entities that run/assist the game. In the case of Norrath, these events are most often undertaken by the Guides of various levels (apprentice through senior), and only rarely does GM refer to the Customer Service staff that actually "help" users with problems.

For these Guide-led quests, a notification will occasionally be broadcast in the zone wherein the quest / event is going to occur. Also, SOE has set aside a section of the forums for the Guides to notify the playerbase when (and usually where) their events are scheduled to occur.
