Strategy[]
Fherin the Ancient is sustained by two Planeshifters; one at each side of him. Each planeshifter will spam an area of effect heal on Fherin with a radius of about 10m.
You have to completely drain the mana of the planeshifters in order to out-dps the healing they do to themselves and Fherin. As a Warlock I used Absorb Magic to drain their mana, it took about two casts per mob. Don't forget to drain Fherin's mana as well. Once out of mana focus on killing the planeshifters and once they are dead kill Fherin.
Alternately, you can pull Fherin away and range attack down the planeshifters. They won't heal if Fherin isn't next to them.
Alternative Alternative strat. As a Guardian I found the "Get a cup of Coffee" strat to work for me. This involves me with my merc healer going in to attack the plane shifter. While my healer beats the life out of the planeshifter I hold Fherin. Stay in heal range of merc and both of you live as you go get a cup of coffee. After about two minutes first planeshifter is dead I just move my merc over to the other planeshifter and repeat round about five minute fight total no muss no fuss and I can rest and relax.
