Journal Steps and Dialogue[]

  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "Each fae is formed from a spirit bud from one of our ancestors. We can retain the memories of our spirits to pass them down through the generations. You can learn more about fae history from my sister, Lyyti Eloranta."
  • Player Character: "She is a history teacher?"
  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "There are several history teachers, all in Kelethin. Remember: not all fae you meet will welcome you, but it's important that you get to know something about our past, which is a part of the history of Greater Faydark itself."
  • Player Character: "I'll get started on my history lessons."
  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "Lyyti is minding her shop on the platform near the bank. If you get lost, ask any of the guards to help you find her."
  • Player Character: "Thank you!"

I need to speak with Lyyti Eloranta in Kelethin. Lyyti will be at her merchant shop near the bank in Old Kelethin.

  • Lyyti Eloranta: "May I help you with something?"
  • Player Character: "Lady Katri said that you're the history instructor."
  • Lyyti Eloranta: "Are you wondering why she sent you to learn history from a merchant?"
  • Player Character: "Sort of. Did you used to be a history teacher?"
  • Lyyti Eloranta: "I love our fae heritage and when Katri told me she would be the Rite of Passage advisor, I told her I wanted to help. I believe my spirit used to inhabit that of a teacher. Each fae's spirit holds memories and experiences from the ancestors, but they are often incomplete, leaving gaps in our history that only the community's knowledge can fill."
  • Player Character: "You mean the fae are reincarnated?"
  • Lyyti Eloranta: "Something like that. When a fae dies, it leaves behind a spirit bud -- sort of like a seedling after a fire clears a pine forest. That spirit is nurtured until it forms a new fae. In this way, the spirits of our ancestors provide us with guidance and memories of the past."
  • Player Character: "So the fae don't have to study history, like I do?"
  • Lyyti Eloranta: "Sometimes a fae will remember things spontaneously, but not always. It can be quite a long while before a spirit bud is ready for renewal. Young fae sense when their spirit is trying to reawaken, and for them learning history is part of their Rite of Passage."
  • Player Character: "I see. This isn't so much about the history of the fae as it is about the fae themselves."
  • Lyyti Eloranta: "That's true, for in our case we are our own history! I don't want to talk your ears off about it, though I can spend hours explaining the rings of time and all. What I think you might like to do is explore the city, get to know the inhabitants."
  • Player Character: "I'd like that."
  • Lyyti Eloranta: "The best way to learn history is to speak with those who have lived it, after all. Here, I've noted some names in your journal. Start with Banker Athinae over there. Good luck in your travels!"
  • Player Character: "Thanks."

I spoke with Lyyti Eloranta. Lyyti Eloranta told me to learn more history with Banker Athinae. I need to visit Athinae Panteraas at the Kelethin First Regional Bank just east of Lyyti's stall.

  • Athinae Panteraas: "How can I help you today?"
  • Player Character: "Lyyti suggested I come speak with you."
  • Athinae Panteraas: "Getting introduced to the ways of the fae? I'm glad to see Outsiders taking such an interest in our ways. What can I do for you?"
  • Player Character: "Can you share some fae history with me?"
  • Athinae Panteraas: "I cannot take much time, as unfortunately it's tax season -- always a busy one for bankers, you know! Briefly, then, Kelethin was long a city of the wood elves. Over time, as the Feir'Dal moved away and their numbers dwindled, the Fae stepped up to recreate the city of Tunare's forest children."
  • Player Character: "Did Tunare create the fae?"
  • Athinae Panteraas: "Fae were created from flowers when Tunare first walked through the forests. Each fae renews as a spirit bud, so the essence of the fae today is the same as it was long ago. Our essence is carried without our spirit buds, which re-blossom into new fae. Though we may appear youthful, our spirits are as old as the ages counted by your kind."
  • Player Character: "Do fae never die then?"
  • Athinae Panteraas: "There are times when...oh, dear. I'm afraid I need to get back to work or I'll never be able to finish the audit of our books. allow me to open a free account for you. What is your name? [Player Character]? Excellent, [Player Character]. You may store coins or items in the bank vaults here in Kelethin."
  • Player Character: "I still have questions."
  • Athinae Panteraas: "This is a busy season for me, I do apologize! If your questions are about banking, Trainer Kaali at the Nursery taught me herself and can guide you as well. Otherwise, you may learn more history from others throughout Kelethin, fae or not. Excuse me, please!"
  • Player Character: "Thanks for your time."

I've spoken with Banker Athinae Panteraas. I need to speak with Raimo Heinila. He can be at the Protectors of Growth or at Jysolin's Pub to the southeast of the bank, or anywhere in between.

  • Raimo Heinila: "Yes? What do you want?"
  • Player Character: "I'm learning about fae history."
  • Raimo Heinila: "Have you learned the part about how the fae have always offered to help others, only to have their wings cut off by the very folks they tried to help? Every generation retains what was learned by the ones that came before, and I tell you this -- the fae do not need your interference. When Princess Saphronia becomes Queen of the fae, haha, we can be done with your kind."
  • Player Character: "What do you have against us?"
  • Raimo Heinila: "Fae are peaceful. Outsiders bring war and destruction. You may think you're above all this, but your kind are no better than the Crushbone. No better than those who came through in the Burning Ring."
  • Player Character: "I don't understand."
  • Raimo Heinila: "Ha! Ignorance is no excuse. Look no further than Green Knoll to see what your kind has brought with you. Treants are our friends, yet you have somehow corrupted them so that we must keep the diseased ones separated on the Knoll. If they continue to linger, they'll infect the other treants in Greater Faydark."
  • Player Character: "I can get rid of them, if that would help."
  • Raimo Heinila: "Hah, violence! I knew it! Yet those poor beings must be destroyed before their disease spreads. Yes, your kind brought this trouble so your kind must fix this. Remove the sickly treants from the Green Knoll.
  • Player Character: "Then will you change your mind about "my kind"?"
  • Raimo Heinila: "If you want to be welcomed, speak to Hamnal Teolofin. You may not be directly responsible for our losses, but we have to draw the line somewhere. Queen Amree will let anyone with a smile into Kelethin these days. That's got to stop. Now go away!"

In my walk through Kelethin, I heard a disturbing tale about diseased treants on Green Knoll. Raimo Heinila blames Outsiders for a disease riddling the treants on Green Knoll. I will remove the diseased treants so their disease does not spread. Though we Outsiders have nothing to do with it, I feel that I must go to the Green Knoll and remove the diseased treants so that they do not infect other treants in Greater Faydark.

I've taken care of the diseased treants. While I am here, I want to talk to Lady Katri to see whether she knows anything about the treants' mysterious disease. Lady Katri may know more about what is affecting the treants here on Green Knoll. I want to speak with her.

  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "You've finished your fae history studies so soon?"
  • Player Character: "Not yet, but I have some questions."
  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "I'll do my best to answer. What is it?"
  • Player Character: "I spoke with Raimo...he blames Outsiders for bringing disease to the Faydarks."
  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "Dark events in Raimo's past lives continue to shadow his outlook to this day. Not all fae believe Outsiders are evil."
  • Player Character: "I had nothing to do with whatever has shadowed him or caused the treants' disease."
  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "Ah, the poor treants, rotting from the inside out. We've tried to heal them, but by the time the disease is obvious, it's too late. And I fear the disease is spreading."
  • Player Character: "Are all the treants of the Faydark at risk?"
  • Lady Katri Eloranta: "All of nature is bound together. When one being suffers, those around it suffer as well. There are spiders and beetles that seem to show signs of disease as well, poor wretches."

I've spoken with Lady Katri.

I've spoken with a couple of Kelethin's residents, but became side-tracked by Raimo Heinila's accusations against Outsiders. After removing some diseased treants from Green Knoll, I returned to Lady Katri only to learn that there is something unsavory going on close to Kelethin!
